Winter
is Special season, everyone waits for winter to end so that they can
shed heavy winter clothing for cool cotton outfits, savour cool summer
drinks and relish favorite summer fruits and vegetables.
However, the hot rays of a summer sun wreaks havoc with skin, causing skin collagen and elastin to breakdown, leading to premature aging and wrinkles, aggravating "Pitta"’ in general, leading to skin sensitivity and sebaceous secretions.
However, before turning to branded beauty kits and sundry suntan lotions to keep looking good in summer, why not head to the kitchen and your garden. No doubt, you have magic potions like rose water, lemon juice, cucumber and yoghurt tucked away in your kitchen, or else you can raid the garden for your requirements. There are also some excellent Ayurvedic recommendations to combat the hot sun.
Summer Beauty Tips:
(1.) Cleansing your skin in summer becomes doubly important. However don’t overdo it and use a after cleansing, use a natural skin toner like rose water to wrought wonders for your skin.
(2.) Protect your hair from dust and grime accumulation by washing it often in summer and covering it when stepping out.
(3.) To remove summer tans, mix equal quantities of lemon and cucumber juice on your face, washing it off with cold water after 20-minutes.
(4.) Alternatively, a pinch of turmeric, cucumber pulp mixed with yoghurt and applied to the face, neck and arms regularly for 30 minutes and then washed off, also helps to remove a tan.
(5.) Tanned hands can be lightened with a paste of sunflower oil, lemon juice and sugar.
(6.) While, feet can be de-tanned by soaking them in water containing lemon juice that will not only clean, but perk them up, as well.
(7.) Avoid hot, spicy and salty food, ease up on tea, coffee, alcohol intake, drink loads of water to stay cool and keep glowing.
(8.) Sesame or Neem oil make for excellent natural sunscreens, as well as, cooled water in which tea leaves have been boiled.
(9.) If, you have been out in the hot sun, refresh and cool off by adding a few drops of rose and sandalwood essence to the bath water.
(10.) In case, you love cooling up by jumping in the swimming pool, do so only after slathering on Vaseline in which you have added a few drops of essential oil of lavender. This will protect your skin from the adverse
effects of chlorine added to swimming pool water.
(11.) Treat sunburned skin by rubbing either crushed cucumber, cucumber juice, aloe vera juice, an infusion of elderflower and chamomile, or cold buttermilk on the affected area.
